Job Title: Assistant Director of Studies
Location: ATC Language Schools, Bray
Reporting to: Director of Studies
Purpose of Post: Managing the Junior Programme / Assisting the Director of Studies

 

 

Key Duties


Junior Programme Management:
Responsible for the overall academic management of the Junior Programme, ensuring a high quality service is provided to groups/group leaders and promoting a professional and positive atmosphere for all our students. 

Regularly monitor junior group projections, liasing with Director of Studies regarding deployment of teachers and allocation of classrooms.
Update the junior group academic overview on a regular basis.
Liase with the Junior Programme Co-ordinator to ensure all social programme schedules tie in with the academic timetable, to update group information when necessary and foresee any potential issues which may arise.
Liase with agents regarding group bookings and ensure all relevant information regarding academic programmes have been received.  
Create and maintain all administrative documentation regarding junior groups including registers, lesson plans, certificates and any other group specific requirements.
Manage the division of students based on level tests taken in advance or on arrival.
Prepare any requested materials or special topic requests for junior groups in advance.
Prepare Group Leader handbooks and any additional documentation relating to specific groups.
Greet leaders/students for their first lesson and organize classes as necessary
Hold meeting with leaders during students’ first lesson and follow up regularly throughout their stay
Maintain the classroom overview, ensuring it is updated on a regular basis
Provide a detailed and thorough induction to new junior programme teachers
Ensure clear lines of communication with teachers regarding groups and that all information is communicated in a timely fashion.

Quality Assurance:
Responsible for ensuring a high standard of teaching by all junior group teachers through organizing observations of all new and established teachers and providing detailed feedback.
Responsible for ‘quality checks’ on end of course certificates to ensure high standard is met.
Monitor student and group leader feedback, following up on any issues that arise in order to continue to improve the quality of the programme.
Organise developmental workshops for junior teachers based on classroom observations.
Provide ad hoc advice and support for junior teachers on a daily basis.
Offer assistance and advice to new teachers, helping them settle in and familiarizing them with policies and procedures, resources, paperwork and weekly lesson planning.

Adult Programme:
Assist the Director of Studies in the day-to-day academic and administrative operations
Teaching adult or junior groups as required
Substitute teaching when required.
Substitute Director of Studies when required.
Weekly classroom checks to ensure all rooms meet requirements for following week
90 minutes per week in the ‘self-study’ centre to supervise adult students’ and offer support with homework.

Summer Exam Co-ordination
Liase with summer centre principals  to obtain student details and communicate details of exam booking
Liase with Trinity / TIE to book exam dates and organize examiners.
Keep detailed record of agency payments
Post exam certificates to relevant agencies

Liase with Director of Studies to create engaging and communicative lessons, blog posts, videos and content on a regular basis.  
Take an active role in marketing elt-connect.com on social media and through other means to build on its success and further its development.

 


Role requirements

 

Essential:
3 years’ teaching experience with both junior and adult students
Successfully completed (or in the process of) Cambridge Delta or Trinity Diploma in TESOL or equivalent or planning to undertake similar within the next 12 months.
Ability to demonstrate a keen interest in both their own personal and professional development.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to problem-solve and work well under pressure
Exceptional attention to detail, ability to multi-task and thorough approach to task completion
Be prepared and able to initiate and manage change
Ability to work independently and use own initiative
Highly motivated, positive and at all times professional
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Strong teaching skills with evidence of ability to observe teachers and provide constructive feedback.

Desirable:
Experience in managing a junior centre or equivalent managerial background.

Dimensions:
Working hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00 -16.30 hrs. Some Saturday morning or bank holiday work may be required at times.
21 days paid holiday per year.  3 - 5 days of this holiday entitlement must be taken during the Christmas period due to school closure. You will be notified of how many days required to be taken during this period 12 months in advance.
Holidays are not permitted from mid-June to mid-August unless under exceptional circumstances and in agreement with your Director of Studies.

Salary:     €27- €30k DOE
