Position: Summer School Director of Studies - Galway

Terms: Full-time, fixed term contract

Job purpose

Location: GMIT Campus

Contract Dates: 10 June to 3 August 2019

The Summer School Director of Studies role will be responsible for the academic management for the junior summer center in our GMIT campus. This full-time role is available from the 10 June to the 3 August. Onboarding training will be scheduled prior to that as required, pending the availability of the successful candidate.

Reporting line

This position will report directly to the Academic Manager

Key accountabilities and duties

Management of Teaching Team

  • Manage & support summer school academic team

  • Organise weekly and daily scheduling of classes and teacher assignments

  • Complete a timely and ordered class roster, in line with academic projections and procedures

  • Liaise with other centres on teacher availability

  • Complete weekly academic report to Academic Manager

  • Lead team meetings and bulletins

  • Contribute to teacher recruitment

  • Lead teacher training programme, including carrying out observations and training INSETTs

  • Submit accurate, timely information to accounts for payroll each week

Delivery of Educational Ethos

  • Lead on preparation for programme delivery

  • Ensure time and support is given to maintain required standard of teaching

  • Ensure delivery of academic programme to Atlantic’s ethos and standards for junior programmes

  • Oversee consistent usage of materials, resources and technology at required standard

  • Co-ordinate required training and teacher development in consultation with Senior Teachers

Academic Oversight of Summer Programme

  • Liaise with group leaders to ensure client satisfaction

  • Attend to student issues in line with standard procedures

  • Ensure consistent and complete processing of recruitment information & documentation for academic team

  • Liaise with Centre Manager on smooth day-to-day running of centre

  • Act as point of contact for summer school to external stakeholders and senior management on academic and related matters

  • Provide reports on teacher performance and participate in end of season review

  • Prepare for internal and external inspections and ensure the summer school is fully compliant with Atlantic policies and sector regulations.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Essential
  • Degree qualified or equivalent at NFQ level 7

  • Minimum3 years’ English Language Teaching experience at all levels

  • Strong people management skills

  • Strong IT competences in educational context

  • Excellent communication and administrative skills

  • Experience of ELT in an international context

  • Ability to work independently and show initiative and problem-solving ability

Desirable
  • Ability to manage time effectively in fast-paced work environment

  • Track record of YL course delivery

  • Previous experience in managing a summer centre

  • Experience of teacher observations and feedback

  • Experience of academic administration

  • DELTA (or equivalent) qualified or currently enrolled on DELTA course

  • Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation requirements of an Irish language school

Required Training

There will be a scheduled training and preparation period before commencement of the summer school, with one review week after the school’s conclusion.
